Dirt Diggers
Their name they got because they love the dirt and digging.
Often they will roll around through dirt, leaves and branches, especially when it rains. They dig not like a mole, but just underneath the surface for food like maggots and worms. . They really dig deep, when they start building a house. It has just one tunnel and two to tree holes. They first make a tunnel around 70 cm deep underground. When that is finished they start making their holes. One hole is later used as a store- cupboard. It takes about 2 days to finish and furnish everything. They make 2 to 3 of these ''homes''.

Latin: Paedidus Fodere: Dirt Digger
body length approximately 18 cm
These homes they use for short breaks while taking enough time to check their territory, that can be from 400m2 till +/- 1200 m2. They fill in each hole the store-cupboard for later consumptions, for example winter. They feed themselves on worms and other small insects and they really love the maggots of may bugs. Also pinecones are a treat and will be collected for diners.
They will go and search for a soul mate and maybe get 1 to 2 small Diggers. Till now we haven't seen a baby Dirt Digger yet. Probably they're too well camouflaged with dirt.
